Firmware & Software Interface

This code is typically programmed into a device during production so it is fixed (hence the use of the word 'firm'). Our team of design engineers have extensive experience in designing and writing firmware for a wide range of programmable devices including:

• Winbond (speech and MFID range).
• Atmel (ATTiny range).
• Microchip PIC.
• 8051-based devices.
• Windows CE.NET Embedded.
• XScale PXA255 and 270.
• Sonix.

Firmware is the term used to describe the code contained within an embedded system.

Our experience allows us to choose the most appropriate device to suit the needs of the product, and to write tight, efficient code to suit the application.

GBE Designs can develop stand-alone computer applications and host software for interfacing peripheral devices to computers. These can, in turn, be interfaced to third party application software.

Software can be written in Assembler, C or C++, Borland Delphi, Visual Basic, JAVA, or Platform Builder. Ownership of the final code can be negotiated.

GBE Designs has specialist knowledge of communications protocols and their implementation on scalable systems from conventional serial (RS232, RS485, USB) to wireless passive (magnetic inductance) and active (RF) systems. In response to the ever-growing demand for Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices GBE Designs has built a strong core competency in this area. This has lead to numerous successful USB products being designed and launched. They have also designed their own low-power and low-cost passive inductive communication system that can be integrated into a variety of applications.
